The State of Ohio Fiber at the North Coast Knitting Guild

The Ohio Natural Fiber Network has been asked to speak to the North Coast Knitting Guild in Mayfield Heights (an eastern suburb of Cleveland) on April 10th. We will be discussing locally grown fiber and why it is important. And we will have a nice sampling of yarn for sale.

There are many knitters around the state that would love to knit with local yarns, but don't know how to go about finding them. Most smaller farms don't sell their yarn at your local yarn store. To buy farm yarn, knitters have to either order on-line or wait for the fiber shows.

The Network wants to change all that! We will be unveiling a new Ohio Fiber Farms map at the guild meeting. The map will showcase Network farms across the state, what they sell, their hours of operation and if the farm has a way to purchase on-line. It will be a real go-to source for finding fiber.

Our network is made up of alpaca, llama, goat, rabbit and sheep farmers -- all of whom are producing outstanding fiber. Some is sold as raw fleece, some as roving, some as yarns and some as finished garments.

Many of our farmers are also excellent dyers, weavers, knitters or crocheters.

There truely is such a huge variety of Ohio fiber and fiber products just within our Network that the most dedicated of fiber-holics could need for decades just with locally grown fiber.

After the guild meeting on April 10th, the Ohio Fiber Farms map will be available to download. We encourage you to print it out, take a little fiber tour and support your local fiber farmer.
